Langkawi Island has many types of accommodations for different types of travellers, from backpackers to luxurious family retreat such as luxurious the Danna Langkawi, Meritus Pelangi Resort to unique accommodations such as Tubotel, Villa Molek & many others. I always love and curious to try new adventures or travel to parts unknown. For my trip, this time, I choose to stay at the unfamiliar & unique accommodation suit my budget, which is, Tubotel Langkawi. Here I want to share a little information about this cute property.
Tubotel Langkawi from the name itself and the picture above, you already know it's not a normal hotel or accommodations like we used to stay. It is a tube, of course, with only bed (king size - equipped with other room amenities, such as mineral water, coffee, and air-conditioner) with shared bathroom. Located at Cenang Beach, Langkawi, Tubotel definitely is the best place to stay for backpackers, minimalist traveller and couple.
Tubotel located just 15 minutes from Langkawi International Airport. If you are from Langkawi International Airport, you need to drive to Cenang Beach area, but before reach to the Cenang Beach, look for Tubotel signboard at the right side. There is a junction on the right, go in and drive to the end of the road. You need to drive towards the end of the road until you saw a white building like a house. You can't see Tubotel rooms right away, as all of it located at the back of that white house (reception area).
How was the room?
The room is quite big for one person. Rooms have two categories, Seaview, and Garden View. Of course, the Seaview room is more expensive than Garden View, but I tell you, it's worth it. The view is spectacular. Room equipped with towels, mineral water, coffee making, air-conditioner, fan and reading lamp but no compartment to store your stuff. I put all my belongings under the bed. Rooms painted in different colours and the front yard is amazing!
At Tubotel, you have to share a bathroom and shower room with others. But the bathroom is large and comfortable. Equipped with hot shower and soap/shampoo (but better use your own).
My room comes with breakfast. It's not a buffet. You have to order and they will cook for you. Most of it is the American breakfast menu.
The Areas
Not that big. I guess, Tubotel area used to be a restaurant area. I can see the layout as it's fit the sea view restaurant layout, maybe. The front porch has an amazing cabana bed and swing. The view is spectacular. You just relax while listening to slow motivating music played by the staff. Tubotel has a little mini shop where you can buy snacks and drinks. They provide free wifi as well. It also has a decent size parking area. From Cenang Town centre, Tubotel just located 10 minutes drive & 5 minutes drive to Meritus Pelangi Resort.
Tips :
1. You must have transport so that you can commute to Cenang Town easily as Tubotel located far from the main road.
2. Suggest you buy a lot of snacks before come here.
3. Enjoy to the fullest!
Overall, my stay was good. You pay what you get. Give yourself a treat! Stay for one night, I suggest. That's good enough and prepare yourself for a shared bathroom concept. ! Travel differently.
